BIOGRAPHY
Born in Frýdek-Místek on 5 May 1954.
Completed Literary, Theatre and Film Studies at Faculty
of Philosophy, Palacký University, Olomouc (1978,
Ph.D. in 1980), and simultaneously
a programme in Photography at Film and Televsion Faculty
of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU), Prague (1974-78).
Appointed Research Assistant in 1978,
Associate Professor in 1994,
and Professor (1994) at the Department of Still Photography,
FAMU, in 1998-2002 was Head
of its History and Theory of Photography Section. Directed
the Czech Photographers’ Union Institute of Art Photography
from 1982, and the Institute
of Creative Photography, Faculty of Philosophy and Science,
Silesian University, Opava, since 1990.
Member of the European Society for the History of Photography
since 2001. Czech Editor
for the Imago journal and Chief Editor of Listy o fotografii;
writes regularly for the Mladá fronta Dnes and Hospodářské
noviny daily and journals Ateliér, Fotograf, Fotografie
Magazín, Photonews, European Photography, Kwartalnik
Fotografia, Portfolio, etc. Member of the Prague House
of Photography.
Wife Darina (1959), son Daniel (1991), daughter Helena
